Sourdough with a big history
It all began with Nancy Fraser, or Gigi, as we know her. Well, Gigi, flour and water. Sourdough has been in our family for years— 170 years to be exact. The same starter has been passed down for generations and the love of baking along with it. From family of sheepherders in Wyoming to family stationed in Germany and now to our family in Kansas City, this little sourdough starter has lived a big life!
When I (Nicole) married into the family, I was gifted a piece of this starter. That’s when I realized just how important Sourdough and baking, and food really, are to this family. Each of the 4 siblings has a part of the family starter and when anyone’s dies (mysteriously of course) they just call up another sibling and the starter lives on. It has been so special to learn more about Gigi and her love of Sourdough. She and Josh talk excitedly about Sourdough, exchange tips and tricks and love literally sharing bread.
We are so happy that we get to share a piece of our family and its history with you through our breads. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
